Knowledge is not only powerful it is valuable as well. Writing and selling an eBook is one of the best ways to profit from what you already know (or even things that you don’t know, yet). But the thought of authoring an entire book intimidates many people because they do not understand the process and how much fun it can be.
I was very intimidated at first myself. And I must admit, being 75% done with my first book, I am still a bit intimidated at times. I keep pushing and persevering because the payoff can continue for years and be very, very rewarding.
This is a quick outline about some steps you can take to get the ball rolling. I will expand on these ideas in the pages that follow.
Thinking out of the box!
This is going to be the hardest part of your planning stages. Right now I bet you think that you have a very limited set of topics, or no topic at all, at least not one that you could use to fill a book. Remember when I say book that I am referring to an eBook. If you are familiar with eBooks you will notice that they tend to have a little larger font than a typical book or MS Word document. The margins are a hair tighter and the length can be anywhere from 20 – 220 pages or more.
Grab a pen and some paper and start day dreaming. If you could write about anything in the world, what would it be? Don’t restrict yourself here. Anything goes. I bet you can come up with some very compelling topics. Some you will know nothing about and others you will be very intimate with.
Now, take an inventory of what you already know about each of these topics.
Now that you have a list of some good topics, begin searching for these topics online. I bet that you are going to find tons of information out there from articles to videos to other books about these topics.
Take your time, read some of the content you are finding. If you have the resources, buy some of the books you find. I suggest specifically seeking out some eBooks or traditional books on your top ideas and understand what is available to those seeking the information you are planning on providing.
Maybe you need to research more? Maybe becoming an expert in your favorite topic will get your creative juices flowing? Hopefully you will create a vision and presentation of content that is different than anything else out there.
No one said this would be easy but this process is very rewarding at the same time. I highly suggest walking through this exercise and seeing what you come up with before we move on.
